Explore the city of do-ers, shakers and makers this Christmas! Most of us work in the city, live for the outdoors and are weekend warriors. However, we sometimes forget that great adventures can be had in urban environments. So we invite you this Christmas, to explore your city. Our city is London and we've found 7 great things to do get a fast fix of Christmas spirit!

1. WINTER WONDERLAND

You may not be able to visit Santa at the North Pole, but you can visit the replica of his dreamy Christmas world in London!  

Set your Christmas fix by immersing yourself in the festive spirit of the annual Winter Wonderland. There are winter markets (perfect for the last mixture gift), fairground rides, UK’s largest ice skating ring, grottos and most importantly, gluhwein galore!

To enter Wonderland is free, but you need tickets for the activities incl. ice skating, the Magical Ice Kingdom, Zippos Circus, the Giant Wheel, Bar Ice, Cirque Berserk and the Sooty Christmas Show - which can be booked in advance.

WHEN?

Friday 18th November to Sunday 2nd January. Gates open between 10am and 10pm daily, except for Christmas Day - Santa needs a day off from delivering all of your presents the night before!

WHERE?

Hyde Park. Nearest tube stations: Marble Arch, Green Park, Hyde Park Corner, Victoria and Knightsbridge.

2. ICE SKATING

No matter how devastatingly awful your ice skating moves are, these rinks will bring you festive cheer and a lot of laughs with friends! There are our 5 favourites;

TOWER OF LONDON

Skate in the dry moat of the grand ancient fortress - you can’t get much cooler than that? You can make your evening magical with a visit to the ice bar, where, you guessed it, you get drinks served in ice!!

SOMERSET HOUSE

Glide on ice in the gorgeous 18th-century courtyard of Somerset House, but it’s not just the glorious backdrop that will tempt you. There’s also Club Nights, hot chocolate, afternoon tea, champagne, fondu, mulled wine, and a Fortnum’s Lodge and Botanical Bar if you’re seeking luxury.

HAMPTON COURT

If you’re a history buff, you’ll love this rink! You can skate in front of Henry VIII’s 16th century home, which makes a spectacular backdrop for your adventure - especially when it’s lit up at night! Here, you can feel regal for one night on ice!

CANARY WHARF

If you work in the city but live for outdoors, then this could be the one for you. Found nestled between the soaring towers of Canary Wharf and sparkling with over 8000 LED lights, this will give you something to look forward to after a hard day's work. You can also recover from your exploration on ice with drinks from the heated terrace.

NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

We love this rink because the fairy lights dripping from the surrounding trees, majestic Christmas tree and the magnificent architecture will enchant and charm you.

Smaller of the 5, but it hits our favourite list because you can wonder around the museum first, explorers can visit the Royal Geographical Society or pop into the V&A.

KING’S COLLEGE CHOIR

Stephen Cleobury will be conducting the world-renowned King’s College choir to perform a selection of popular carols with the amazing Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus at the majestic Royal Albert Hall

CITY OF LONDON SINFONIA: AN ENGLISH FOLK CHRISTMAS BY CANDLELIGHT

This is a bit of quirky one, but we thought it sounded fun! The evening celebrates traditional christmas folk tunes and takes including Vaughn William’s Fantasi on Christmas Carols and Warlock’s Bethlehem Down!

ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL

St Paul’s has lots of festive services, which are free and unticketd, including carol concerts! We highly recommending taking a visit one evening, as the interior is magical and we can only imagine the service will powerfully move you.

4. THE CHRISTMAS FOREST

Need a Christmas tree? Pop along to one of the 10 pop-up Christmas Forest in London! For every tree sold, another is planted in the drylands of Africa via Charity Tree Aid, to help re-green environments and improvethe lives of families living in Ethiopia, Burkina Faso and Mali.

5. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

The capital has had a Christmas makeover with garlands of lights sparkling and dazzling the visitors! It's quite the modern marvel! 

The word on Santa’s snowy trails is that Oxford Street, Carnaby Street, King’s Road, Bond Street and Regent Street are the places to go!

And of course as you wonder around, you can do your Christmas shopping and seek Christmas inspired refreshments in all of the various cafes!

6. SOUTHBANK WINTER FESTIVAL

This year you can find cider, carols and a Christmas market all down by the river! Gone are the days when Parliament has to shut due to the pungent fumes from the Thames!
